1970 Rogers 380 Red Pine Pearl
Here is a 1970 Rogers drum set made by Yamaha*.
*Yamaha began producing drums around
1966. Around 1969 or ‘70, Yamaha changed their drum shell construction to high quality
Birch wood. These thin shelled drums, with no reinforcing rings were very
similar to Gretsch drums of the 60’s and 70’s, even copying their internal
muffler design and painted interiors. Yamaha drums were the first high quality,
professional-level drums to be produced in Japan.
The drums are finished in Red Pine Pearl (also called Red Umber).
The bass drum and mounted toms have some fade in the color on one side. The
floor tom has no fade. By setting the drums up in a certain way with a Yamaha
floor stand and RIMS mounts, the fade is not visible from the “audience side”.
The bass drum was also set up upside down with clamp-on spurs. This works great
and features the beauty of this unique finish, while concealing the faded side.
The drums can be set up in the traditional way by using the original mount. The
faded side then becomes apparent. Please look at the photos and you will see
the color difference in the two different set-ups. Either way, this is a great
looking and sounding drum set.

By setting the bass drum upside down, the spur holders become
cymbal holders!

Note the RIMS mounts.

Here is the bass drum with the un-faded side up.

Check out the unique floor tom brackets made especially for R-360
and 380 drums!

Below is a photo showing the faded side and original tom mount.

Notice the difference between the floor tom and the rest of the
drums.

The toms can also be set up with the un-faded side facing front
AND the original mount by mounting the toms upside down! Only the bass drum
shows the fade with this method.
