1940 Slingerland "Super Gene Krupa" model

In 1940 Slingerland introduced the new "Super" throw-off strainer, along with their new "Super" lugs (also known as "beaver tail" lugs). The Slingerland "Super Krupa" model snare drum featured both of these new innovations.
(For more information see the "Slingerland History" section of this web site). Here we have a nice example of a Super gene Krupa snare drum. Solid maple shell finished in classic White Marine Pearl that has aged to a fine buttery color. The small chip in the top edge of the pearl could easily be repaired, however it is not seen when heads are on the drum. There is also a small cigarette burn in the finish that penetrated the pearl (see photo).
