1926 Ludwig & Ludwig “Stipelgold” Deluxe Model

Here is an extremely rare snare drum finished in original Stipelgold Deluxe finish. This unusual textured finish was only offered for about a year and was replaced with a similar, sturdier textured application called “Ludwigold” around 1927. This may have been due to the fact that Stipelgold was prone to flaking and chipping. Many Stipelgold drums were later stripped of this finish and re-painted. After consulting with several vintage drum experts, I have reached the conclusion that this particular example has been painted over with a gold paint, although the Stipelgold textured finish is about 90% intact. The gold paint could possibly be removed to reveal the original gold color but it is not really advised as it might damage the textured finish. The present color is very close to the original shade, as far as can be determined. This drum weighs a ton! It has the heavy weight solid brass shell that was used on the famous Ludwig Black Beauty snare drums of the 1920’s and 30’s. The Super snare mechanism works perfectly and is 100% complete, original and intact. Six of the tension rod claws are AK Drums exact reproductions.
